Summer is here, and we’re ready to take to the open seas! Broco Oil is now providing marine fuel for commercial and residential boats. Your smaller personal boats are going to need off-road fuel. Commercial ships often use MGO or Marine Gasoil, but what exactly is MGO?
Whether its MGO for your larger commercial ship or off-road fuel for your smaller personal boat, we are here to serve!
So what is MGO? Marine Gasoil is a fuel composed of various blends of distillates. Distillates are the evaporated components of crude oil during the distilling process, that are condensed from gas state to liquid state. Marine Gasoil can be compared to diesel, but the difference is its higher density and storage requirements. MGO does not require heated storage. This saves cost and maintenance on ships already in use and installation on new ships.
MGO can hold a light or transparent color, but in certain circumstances is colorized yellow or red to easily detect usage of cheap heating oil in its stead. Marine Gasoil is a blend of distillates and small proportions of heavy fuel oil, giving it a low viscosity. This enables it to be easily pumped into the engine at a temperature of approximately 20 degrees Celsius.
Marine Gasoil continues to be a popular choice inside the shipping industry. Because of its lesser proportion of heavy fuel, it produces emissions with significantly less particulate matter and soot.
